Pull the steering column when you do. If you're working alone, it's much easier without it in the way.
Can I just unbolt it and drop it to the floor? I am scared to get too deep into it!

You took the entire dash out and are rewiring the car, something tells me you can handle the column. You are 95% of the way there. Four bolts on the firewall, two rag joint nuts, two or three nuts on the column to pedal support bracket and it's out. You probably need a new rag joint anyway... ;) (y)

More progress…Mastercoat Silver and seam sealers, also finished black in engine compartment….

Doing a top coat of rustoleum to seal up the Mastercoat and seam sealers, and give a good mating surface to gaskets and such…will be painting gray all weekend!

More test fitting, added valance and bumper components, will add the rest of the lighting so I can wire it…just roughly bolted on, not aligned.

Got the door window glass and mechanical bits out so I can treat minor in door rust. Then I destroyed my pinky finger working on front suspension…time to take some time off…impacted so hard I tore the skin off the side of finger, turned purple under nail in 3 minutes, entire tip if finger is purple if it still has skin and swelled like a balloon everywhere else after last joint…arg…put ice on it and purple is moving down finger and less pressure on tip….so I think I have the swelling reversing…🤬😥

Kind of stuck in a pause after smashing the finger a week ago…I did manage to loosen my Upper control arm nuts, with not height impact. Also messed with AAW wiring kit, and got the rear harness test fit and wrapped with protective sheathing. also reinstalled convertible top wiring after interior-rust and paint work…finger still stings, is swollen…not healed for sure, just barely to the stabilized point. Waiting on AC to arrive, and mom is coming to town for a week, so probably April before I make major progress.

Just read through this entire thread... Great job on the car. I will be following closely because my car is following the same path. Thanks for the great pictures they are very helpful.

Since I can’t do heavy wrenching right now, I convinced my wife that it was OK to rewire the dash in the living room!
trying to keep it clean and protected, wrapping branches…I have to do instrument panel, then change plugs out on the steering wheel, then wait for AC auto arrive before I can go further…
